Knowing, however, that many would benefit from his teaching, Supuṣhpachandra disobeyed and went cheerfully to his execution. The story is found in the Samādhirāja-sūtra.
Knowing that the king would cause him harm, Did nothing to escape from tribulation,
That the pains of many should be ended.C’est pourquoi, bien que sachant ce que le roi
Lui ferait subir, Supushpachandra Ne s’épargna point cette souffrance
Even though Supuspa Chandra
Knew the suffering caused by the king, He did not eliminate his own suffering,
In order to exhaust the suffering of many. Therefore, Bodhisattva Supusha Chandra
Although realizing the king would harm him, Did not dispel his own suffering
In order to exhaust the suffering of many others.[p.300]A Commentary on Shantideva's Engaging in the Conduct of the BodhisattvasGyaltsen, Lama Kalsang, and Ani Kunga Chodron, trans.
