| English | What is very pure morality? With reference to the two vows, it is not breaching the code of conduct pertaining to behavior that is harmful in itself, and behavior that is religiously prohibited. It is acting in accordance with the teachings by repenting very quickly when there is a breach in attentiveness. It is also having repentance towards those failures in śrāvaka vows that are said to be irremediable—and to possess the resolution not to repeat these. Further, one is said to be truly pure in morality when one understands the lack of inherent existence of the mind that is the mind that performs actions, or when one is fully familiar with the fact that all dharmas are without inherent nature. And the noble Ajātashatrukaukṛtyavinoda Sūtra teaches that one ought to understand and appreciate this. Thus when one comes to be without regret ('gyod pa med pa) one works diligently in meditation. |
