| English | The hungry ghosts also experience incredible misery, their forms withered away by the agonizing fires of intolerably intense hunger and thirst. Animals too are seen undergoing many kinds of suffering, such as mutual malice, mutilation, slaughter and consumption. People, as well, are seen experiencing endless sufferings, such as mutual insult and injury, separation from the agreeable, union with the disagreeable and everything that is born from poverty—(all) on account of misfortune and the pursuit of desires. All who are thoroughly ensnared by the afflictions of passion and so on, who have become entangled with all kinds of mistaken views that cause suffering, are therefore extremely miserable— as though (they were) stuck in a pit. |
