Moreover, nirvana is the single equality of liberation and primordial wisdom, and since the Shrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not perfect the qualities of elimination and realization, their liberation is not complete. They have lesser defilements, as many as the sands of the Ganges, that arise from the “ground of the habitual tendency to ignorance” (ma rig bag chags kyi sa) and that veil the [ten] strengths and [four] fearlessnesses together with all the other qualities of buddhahood. The elimination of these is said to be the lion’s roar of omniscience. There is nothing beyond this one final vehicle, this one kind of liberation in the dharmakaya. Although final liberation arises from the realization of the sugatagarbha, the profound meaning of the noble truths, this is not the sphere of experience of the Shrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Such an inconceivable truth of the cessation of suffering is not within the domain of the Shrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, who are compared in the teachings (gsungs) to blind men unable to see the sun. In a similar manner, in the autocommentary to the Madhyamakāvatāra when the single final vehicle is being established, the sutra is cited: “If you realize, O Kashyapa, the equality of all phenomena, this is nirvana, the state beyond suffering. And this is one; it is not two or three.” And in the Uttaratantra-shastra it is said:
