| English | As for dhyāna itself, because it is included among the six perfections, based on its practice all the perfections are (necessarily to be) practiced. From which it follows that it would be illogical if one maintained that any of the perfections beginning with giving does not have to be practiced. Indeed, based on its inclusion in the six perfections, even a cow-dung maṇḍala to the Buddha would have to be undertaken, not (just) dhyāna or (any one of) the other perfections. Another point: (if this were not so) it would then follow that the six perfections would be fulfilled based on the improper practice of the signless by a śrāvaka attaining the samādhi of cessation. And thus, the teaching would be that there is no distinction between the bodhisattvas and śrāvakas! |
