Texts like the Abhidharma mention “the cessation of what has arisen.” “What has arisen” is, for instance, a sprout that has passed. As for the future, “it has a cause, yet it has not arisen,” so there is a distinctive way in which it has not arisen. “It has a cause” excludes being the future of something like space or a rabbit horn that is not possible to be a cause that ever produces that phenomenon. This aspect is posited as the future. The present is the main one because it alone is that which has arisen but has not disintegrated. The other two are subsidiary because they are necessarily posited from the aspects of the present having disintegrated or having not arisen. Nevertheless, the three times are also established relationally. The way that the past and future are relational can be understood from what was just said. The present is also shown to be relational; “has arisen” excludes the future, and “has not ceased” excludes the past. Thus, whichever time is posited, it must be understood relationally.

Abhidharma - Abhidharma generally refers to the corpus of Buddhist texts which deals with the typological, phenomenological, metaphysical, and epistemological presentation of Buddhist concepts and teachings. The Abhidharma teachings present a metaknowledge of Buddhist sūtras through analytical and systemic schemas and are said to focus on developing wisdom among the three principles of training. Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a compassionate being who is training on the path to buddhahood and aspires to eliminate the suffering of all beings and take all sentient beings to the state of enlightenment.
