Then, to generate wisdom that realizes selflessness—the antidote that completely uproots the afflictions—meditation on selflessness through the fourfold application of mindfulness is explained. The Anthology of Training further states: “Then when the mind has become workable, engage in the applications of mindfulness . . . this was the explanation of the applications of mindfulness.”309Śāntideva, Anthology of Training, 128a–133a; English trans. in Goodman, Training Anthology of Śāntideva, 221–232. The individual meanings of the applications of mindfulness, to the body and so on, are established in detail through scriptures such as the Compendium of Dharma. Again, the Anthology of Training states: “Then when the mind has become suitable, engage emptiness . . .”310Śāntideva, Anthology of Training, 133a; English trans. in Goodman, Training Anthology of Śāntideva, 232. In an extensive explanation of the way of meditating on emptiness by means of the six elements, the six sense-fields of texture, and the eighteen feelings of mental movement, it cites texts like the Meeting of the Father and Son Sūtra.
