| English | These were presented in terms of those who have a determined Mahāyāna heritage. It is different for others like the Svātantrikas. According to the system of the Yogācāra-Svātantrika-Mādhyamikas, the imputed aspects of both obscurations, along with their potentials, are eliminated by the uninterrupted path on the Mahāyāna path of seeing. Also, the innate aspects of both obscurations, which are divided into nine types, are held to be progressively eliminated in nine stages of the uninterrupted path on the path of meditation. Then, one becomes a buddha when both of the subtle aspects of the two obscurations, which are to be eliminated by the uninterrupted path at the end of the continuum, are simultaneously eliminated. This is their explanation of how they are eliminated for one with a determined Mahāyāna heritage. In his Blaze of Reason, Bhāviveka says that those with a determined Mahāyāna heritage completely remove the afflictive obscurations when they reach the eighth ground. This is different from the description above. Also, this differs from that of the Prāsaṅgikas because this position does not accept that cognitive obscurations have yet to begin to be eliminated before afflictive obscurations have been exhausted.[p.158]The Profound Reality of Interdependence |
