Each of these has two aspects: a manifest aspect and a potential aspect (mngon gyur dang sa bon gyi cha). A manifest afflictive obscuration that is imputed is to apprehend a person existing as a self-subsisting substance that is in disjunction with the characteristics of the aggregates; and produced from that, afflictions and that which is concordant with them. Also, it is to apprehend true existence imputed by a philosophical system, and that which is produced from this—afflictions like holding onto an extreme and that which is concordant with them. The imputed afflictive obscuration’s potential aspect is the predispositions for afflictions that produce these.
