Here I will present the characteristics of the two obscurations for the most part in the way of Khedrupjé’s Exposition. The definition of an afflictive obscuration is a type of affliction that mainly obscures the attainment of liberation. When divided, there are two: those that are imputed (kun btags) and those that are innate (lhan skyes). The definition of an imputed afflictive obscuration is any seed consisting of a producer of an affliction, or is concordant with it, that arises due to the influence of a philosophical system. The definition of an innate afflictive obscuration is any seed consisting of a producer of an affliction, or is concordant with it, that has arisen from a predisposition from beginningless habituation without depending on the influence of a philosophical system.
