English	From among these three aforementioned arguments, there is an objection and a reply regarding the meaning of the second argument. First, for an objection raised by Svātantrikas and below: “It is not reasonable to say that someone who does not realize emptiness, like a non-Buddhist sage, is not able to eliminate the latencies for the three realms. This is because even without realizing emptiness, one can completely eliminate the latencies for the three realms along with their potentials based on habituating to the direct realization of the selflessness that is the emptiness of a person existing as a self-subsisting substance. This kind of selflessness is ascertained by study and contemplation; it becomes a direct realization by habituating to it for a long time. This is established through reason by way of yogic perception. The path of seeing that directly realizes this kind of selflessness is able to eliminate the potentials for the imputed afflictive obscurations; and the path of meditation that habituates to the direct realization of this can eliminate the potentials for the innate afflictive obscurations.”

Āvaraṇa - Literally, that which obscures or conceals. Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a compassionate being who is training on the path to buddhahood and aspires to eliminate the suffering of all beings and take all sentient beings to the state of enlightenment.
