| English | The essence of a perceptual source of knowledge is the non-deceptive cognition of an evident warranted object that apprehends its object without relying on a sign. There is a twofold division of perceptual sources of knowledge: (1) a perceptual source of knowledge that is based on the dominant condition that is a sense-faculty with material form and (2) a perceptual source of knowledge that is based on the dominant cognition that is the mental faculty. The latter has a twofold subdivision: (1) mental perception that just comes from the dominant condition of the mental faculty without relying on the unity of calm abiding and special insight, and (2) yogic perception that comes from the dominant condition relying on the unity of calm abiding and special insight. Thereby, there are three types of perceptual sources of knowledge: sense perception, like a visual apprehension of blue; mental perception, like the memory of blue that arises after a visual cognition of blue; and yogic perception, like the cognition that directly realizes any of the subtle or coarse types of selflessness. It has already been explained that self-awareness is not accepted as a perceptual source of knowledge. |
