One might ask, “Without self-awareness, even conventionally, how does your Prāsaṅgika system account for something like a perception that apprehends blue?” Our account is as follows: By the power of apprehending a blue object, a visual perception apprehending blue does not need to be conjoined with another source of knowledge; the visual cognition itself can directly induce a memory of the apprehension of blue. This is because the memory eliminates superimpositions of both the blue not existing and the visual cognition apprehending blue not existing. Also, it is because memory itself is a source of knowledge for the existence of a visual cognition apprehending blue. Tsongkhapa’s explanation of the Introduction to the Middle Way mentions additional reasons, too.
