| English | Another twofold division is drawn among these scholars based on the way they assert the conventional—whether they accept external objects or not. Those who accept them include Bhāviveka, Candrakīrti, and their followers; those who do not accept them include Śāntarakṣita, father and son Kamalaśīla, and their followers. There is another twofold distinction based on the way the view is generated in the continuum: that between Svātantrika and Prāsaṅgika. Among the Svātantrikas, there are Sautrāntika-Svātantrika-Mādhyamikas and Yogācāra-Svātantrika-Mādhyamikas. The former includes such figures as Bhāviveka and Jñānagarbha. The latter includes such figures as Śāntarakṣita, father and son Kamalaśīla, the pair of Vimuktisena and Haribhadra, and so on. As for the Prāsaṅgikas, there are such figures as Āryaśūra, Nāgabodhi, Buddhapālita, Candrakīrti, and the Victor’s child, Śāntideva. |
