There are several treaties that are commentaries on their viewpoint. The main ones are (1) the Ornament of Manifest Realization treatise by the Victorious One’s regent, “the undefeated” Maitreya, and (2) the sixfold Madhyamaka “Collection of Reasonings” by Nāgārjuna. The former explains the hidden meaning—the stages of manifest realization (sbas don mngon rtogs kyi rim pa)—by correlating the stages of the practice of the path and bringing together the body of the Mother Sūtras in eight subjects (dngos brgyad) and seventy topics.
