Thus, in the Svātantrika system, the first wheel is provisional in meaning and the second wheel has two aspects of definitive and provisional: the extensive, middling, and condensed Perfection of Wisdom are definitive in meaning, whereas something like the Heart Sūtra is held to be provisional in meaning. They accept that the last teaching, the wheel of doctrine of clear differentiation, is provisional in meaning in terms of the framework of the three natures according to the proponents of Mind-Only’s assertions. However, there are many ways of explaining their way of understanding what is provisional and definitive in meaning in the last wheel; it is a difficult point in this context here. I will also not mention here the way of explaining what is provisional and definitive in meaning based on the three criteria of having a basis in another intention, and so forth.118Along with having a basis in another intention (dgongs gzhi), the other two criteria are having a purpose (dgos pa) and explicit invalidation (dngos la gnod). |
