English

Due to the two systems of Svātantrikas and Prāsaṅgikas identifying the object of negation differently, they also have different criteria [683] for examining reality. Svātantrikas are not satisfied with simply words and conventions that “a sprout comes from a seed.” They investigate whether or not there is the arising of a sprout from a seed objectively, and the process of arising. But this does not involve ultimate analysis; it is just conventional analysis. If anything is found by such an analysis, it is said to be a conventionally existent thing and something that is established unreflectively without analysis. Ultimate analysis is held to be an analysis of the status of the arising of a sprout from a seed not held to be posited by the force of cognition—an analysis of the production from a seed as the objective way of a sprout’s own mode of being; they accept that no phenomenon withstands this type of analysis.
