| English | While Prāsaṅgikas also posit things like sprouts by the force of their appearing to cognition, the conventional existence of things like sprouts is understood to be merely a nominal and conceptual designation. Apart from this, no objects designated by words like “sprout” are accepted whatsoever to exist objectively, from their own side. Merely this is not enough for Svātantrikas to account for existence. There is a big difference in the meaning of “cognition,” too, in the phrase “posited through the force of cognition”: Svātantrikas accept that conventional existence must be understood exclusively by an unimpaired cognition that is not mistaken regarding the mode of being of a thing like a sprout. Prāsaṅgikas, however, accept that the conventional existence of things like sprouts can be understood even by a cognition that is mistaken with regard to the object’s mode of being. |
