In general, the object of negation is twofold: (1) the objects of negation by the path and (2) the objects of negation by reason. The former are, for instance, the two obscurations. These are existent objects of knowledge; if they did not exist, all beings would automatically be liberated and striving to cultivate the path would be pointless. How to negate these is to stop them in a way that they can never arise again in one’s continuum, but their existence as objects of knowledge is not negated.
