| English | Therefore, the meaning of dependent arising can be explained in the three ways of meeting (phrad), relying (ltos), and depending (brten). These three are in general said to be synonymous, but here they can be described separately to identify three distinctive arguments. Meeting presents the meaning of an argument that there is arising through meeting: conditioned phenomena merely arise (skye ba tsam) when meeting with their particular causes and conditions. Also, the meaning of meeting is the meeting of a cause like a seed oriented toward cessation and an effect like a sprout oriented toward arising. This is the meaning of meeting; it does not refer to the meeting of cause and effect, which is impossible. |
