In general, to exist and to arise are not in contradiction, but to exist and to arise again is said to be a contradiction. Likewise, to exist and to arise with an end is not a contradiction, but to exist and to arise again with an end is said to be a contradiction. Therefore, the passages cited from Buddhapālita and from the Introduction to the Middle Way clearly express the word again (yang), before and after. In Buddhapālita’s text, there is a short demonstration and an extensive explanation, and it is important to know that again applies to both. Although the short demonstration does not have the word again, it should be applied there from the extensive explanation.
