For them, that which pervades and encompasses all causes, conditions, and effects is singularly the primal basis, [803] the universal, or the basic materiality. They think that if this did not exist, then causal relationships would not be possible, whereas many causes and conditions come together in what is observed to be a common effect. As for the way things are intrinsically the same, they accept that the nature of all causes, conditions, and effects is intertwined. Some Sāṃkhyas do not accept arising from the universal or primal basis; they accept that effects that exist at the time of their causes are manifested due to conditions.
