When the world disintegrates and is empty, there only remain partless, subtle particles, alone in space. At some point, Īśvara becomes motivated, wanting to make a gift of an environment and inhabitants. Because of this, and the power of sentient beings’ karma, two minute wind-particles join first, then a third minute wind-particle joins. In this way, in the moment of a finger snap, a great circle of wind moves, becoming a reality. Upon this, in a process like before, from water-particles a circle of water forms and swirls. Upon this, like before, a solid mass of a circle of earth forms from earthparticles. Upon this, like before, a great heap of fire blazes from fire-particles, becoming a single tongue of a flame. In the middle of the fire, through the power of Īśvara’s desire, a blazing, great egg of Brahmā manifests. When it matures and breaks, the great Brahmā, patriarch of the world, emerges from the womb of a lotus. With four faces, he sits on a lotus; he is the one held to be the creator of the entire world. This also shows how permanent minute particles are the creator of the world. Alternatively, it is also explained by proponents of Brahmā that he was born from a lotus from Viṣṇu’s navel, [798] or that Brahmā was born from an egg that was emanated from the mind of Īśvara.
