It is stated in this way in reliance on the great commentary: “Since there is no root to these afflictions, they are relinquished by just seeing the ultimate reality; thus, they are ‘dismal.’” 648Prajñākaramati, Commentary on the Way of the Bodhisattva, 86a. And the Explanation, which says: “These ‘dismal afflictions,’ such as attachment . . .”649Kṛṣṇapa, Explanation of the Way of the Bodhisattva, 308b–309a. In short, they are referred to with the disparaging words “dismal afflictions” because they disperse upon merely being seen by the eye of wisdom. Gyaltsab Jé’s commentary describes this in accord with the great commentary: “Since the afflictions have no place of support—since the afflictions arise from a distorted root—they are expelled from the root once their potentials are relinquished by the eye of wisdom that realizes[p.323]The Great Hum |
