When they are abandoned in this way from the root, it is impossible for them to manifest in my continuum. So when these things to be removed are dispelled from my mind with an antidote, where do they go? There is no place for them to go and no place to stay to gather strength, so it is impossible for them to come back from somewhere and do any harm to me. Even so, I have just been without any diligence; my mental power weak and despondent with the thought, “How could I relinquish these afflictions?” If I had the diligence and an energetic attitude to relinquish them, it would be impossible for them not to be relinquished because they are easier to destroy than the others. Alternatively, it is also fine to explain it in this way: My mental power of realizing the antidote that is selflessness has been weak, so I have just been without any diligence to expel them once from the root.
