Moreover, when the nature of these afflictions to be relinquished are examined, they are easily destroyed; thus the disparaging words of the verse, dismal. Afflictions like these merely arise from the root of a perverse conception; they do not have a naturally abiding foundation. Consequently, when they are looked upon and investigated by the antidote—the eye of wisdom that realizes emptiness—they are relinquished from the root; they are abandoned by merely their nature being seen. Thus mundane insight suppresses their potential, whereas transcendent wisdom relinquishes them by uprooting their potential.
