| English | Moreover, habituating shows that the meaning, as it is, cannot be integrated into one’s continuum by merely hearing the words or through merely an intellectual understanding of their meaning. These alone cannot perform the function of purging the afflictions and so on. Further, if you do not make a strong effort to habituate and familiarize yourself with what you have studied and learned, it will be forgotten. This also shows that the continuity of development will take place by familiarizing yourself and habituating for a long time—again and again—through encountering, considering, and reflecting upon the meanings of the stages of the path, such as the difficulties of finding the freedoms and endowments and the benefits of the spirit of awakening. When habituation has reached its culmination, the purposes are accomplished, including the meaning being clearly and directly realized. |
