Here there are two points: first, the identification of the ground, the presentation of the two truths, and, second, an explanation of the meaning of each of the two kinds of no-self. Regarding the first, it is certain that there are two truths and that knowledge objects are the basis for their distinction. It is said in the Pitāputrasamāgama-sūtra, “They are the relative and the ultimate; there is never any third truth,” which shows that there has never been a third truth that is not included in the two truths. Therefore, although noble beings speak of four truths, the fault of not being included in the two truths is not entailed. For the truths of suffering, origin, and path are part of the “all-concealing” relative truth, while the truth of cessation is included in the ultimate truth. As it is said in the autocommentary to the Madhyamakāvatāra, “The truths of suffering, origin, and path belong to the relative truth. The truth of cessation is the very nature of the ultimate truth.”
