English	Veneration, praise, and fame Serve not to increase merit or my span of life, Bestowing neither health nor strength And nothing for the body’s ease. It is inappropriate to be irritated with those who throw obstacles in the way of our acquiring honors and renown in a worldly sense. For indeed, all the veneration of praise and celebrity paid to us by others will do nothing to increase the merit that will be of help to us in our future existences. Nor will it increase our span of life; for it brings neither health nor strength and nothing for the body’s ease: no food to still our hunger, no drink to slake our thirst.

Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a compassionate being who is training on the path to buddhahood and aspires to eliminate the suffering of all beings and take all sentient beings to the state of enlightenment.
