Approach

General - Does not use discipline specific vocabulary. Often is crafted for a human interest audience and it could be literary writing, journalism, magazine articles, news, podcasts, etc.
Dharma - The writing uses more colloquialisms, sometimes is vague, makes truth claims and uses specific "dharmic" vocabulary and grammar from the writer’s sangha/tradition. It assumes that the reader is a believer to some extent or shares a certain affinity for the shared belief system. Less reflexivity than academic writing and more truth claims are made. Little to no critical analysis of texts, subjects, traditions, etc.
Traditional - This type of content is for an audience that speaks and/or reads Tibetan and/or Sanskrit (other Buddhist languages could be included) and may have been trained in some traditional system. There is a "Traditional" approach to the topic, including deference to lineage authority, strong truth claims, and uses specific vocabulary and grammar.
Academic - The writing and/or subject is "academic" in nature, meaning the way they write about or interact with the subject is argumentative and uses discipline specific vocabulary and grammar. It’s also theoretical, critical, and historical; it doesn’t presume belief. Truth claims are hedged and contextualized in this manner. Scholarly works based on primary and secondary sources with citations are an obvious example.

Audience

Beginner - "Discover Area" - Content for the beginners and general readership. The idea here is that items that we think are short, pithy, and would get someone's attention are useful for this "new to Buddhism" audience.
Intermediate - "Explore Area" - Some experience or education relating with Buddhist ideas and likely interested in specific content related to practice or study. The audience here will range from dharma students with specific teachers to independent students to scholars.
Advanced - "Study Area" - This is for the educated reader of Buddhist content. If an item is tagged "Advanced," it would be unlikely to be easily accessible to a college student new to Buddhist studies.
Youth - For items that are specifically designed for young people, children or adolescents.
Teacher- This tag should be added to material that is particularly relevant for someone taking on the role of teaching a class of any kind, in a Buddhist center or university course or continuing education at the local YMCA.
