English	Relinquishing all other aspirations, Focusing myself on one intent alone, I’ll strive to still my mind And, calming it, to bring it to subjection. Abandoning all other aspirations and wishes and all unvirtuous and even neutral states of mind that focus on this present life and are concerned with self-enrichment, the gaining of religious offerings, the overcoming of enemies, or the protecting of friends, Shantideva resolves to watch his mind and bring it under control. This will be his only concern. He will strive in the profound meditation of the union of shamatha and vipashyana: the former to still his mind in the even state of calm abiding, the latter to subdue it with penetrative insight.

Bodhisattva - A person who seeks enlightenment for the sake of others. In Mahāyāna Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a compassionate being who is training on the path to buddhahood and aspires to eliminate the suffering of all beings and take all sentient beings to the state of enlightenment.
