Description An eleventh-century scholar from Vikramaśīla, known for producing works on sūtra. According to Karl Brunnhölzl, he likely also authored Mahāyānottaratantraśāstraṭippanī (A Commentary on the Meaning of the Words of the "Uttaratantra"). He is not to be confused with a second Vairocanarakṣita, known also as Vairocanavajra, who lived about a century later and spent time in Tibet in the mid-12th century and who was more focused on tantra and mahāmudrā.
