Description	Born to a family associated with a monastery named Shapme Gomne (Shab smad sgom gnas) in the Tropu (Khro phu) area of Tsang. A teacher of many prominent masters of his time, such as the fifth abbot of Jonang; Chokle Namgyal (1306–1386); Chunyi Sarma Drakpa Sherap (1310–1370); the Second Gankar Lama, Rinchen Zangpo (1317–1383); Drakpa Gyaltsen, who succeeded him as abbot of Zhalu (1365–1448), etc.

Jonang - The Jonang tradition was established by Dölpopa Sherab Gyaltsen, a thirteenth-century Sakya monk famous for his Zhentong teachings. The Jonang teachings and monasteries were suppressed in Tibet in the seventeenth century but survived in Amdo. Tib ཇོ་ནང་

Sarma - The new Buddhist schools which began to rise in the second millennium in Tibet after Buddhism declined in the ninth century as a result of the fall of the Yarlung dynasty. The Sarma schools were mostly based on Buddhist teachings freshly received from India and Nepal in contrast to the revival of the old teachings which already existed in Tibet. Tib གསར་མ།
