| English | Because they are completely gripped by great compassion the Illustrious Buddhas remain in the world of sentient beings until reaching its end—in spite of the fact that they have already accomplished all their own perfected qualities. They will not enter the serene citadel of nirvāṇa, as śrāvakas do. Having gazed upon sentient beings, they distance themselves from the serene citadel of nirvāṇa as though it were a blazing house of iron. Thus the cause of the Buddhas’ nonabiding nirvāṇa is exactly that great compassion. |
