English

The emptiness of persons is fully established. By this, the entirety of afflictions will not arise because the root is cut. It states in the Mystery of the Tathāgata Sūtra: “Śāntimati, consider this. For example, when you cut a tree by the roots, all the branches, leaves, and stems will wither. Śāntimati, likewise when you completely pacify the view of the transitory collective, all the afflictions and the subsidiary afflictions will be pacified.”320Śāntideva, Anthology of Training, 133a–133b; English trans. in Goodman, Training Anthology of Śāntideva, 233.
