| English | Observing another person that is different from one’s continuum and holding this to exist on its own is apprehending a self of persons but not a view of the transitory collective. To be a view of the transitory collective, the mental idea “mine” must naturally arise upon observing either “I” or “mine” regarding one’s continuum. This is stated in the autocommentary on the Introduction to the Middle Way. Therefore, a view of the transitory collective that apprehends “I” is necessarily both an apprehension of the self of persons and a view of the transitory collective. Yet if it is an apprehension of the self of persons and a view of the transitory collective, it is not necessarily a view of the transitory collective that apprehends “I.” One should likewise know this for the view of a transitory collective that apprehends “mine” as well. |
