English	Yogācāra-Svātantrika-Mādhyamikas claim that the coarse selflessness of phenomena is the emptiness of the separate substances of perceived and perceiver, for instance; they assert the subtle selflessness of phenomena to be the emptiness of phenomena’s true existence. Sautrāntika-Svātantrika-Mādhyamikas accept external objects, so they do not assert the emptiness of the separate substances of a material form and the source of knowledge apprehending that form. The way they understand the coarse selflessness of phenomena is similar to the way proponents of Mind-Only do, and the way that they understand the subtle selflessness of phenomena is similar to the way of Yogācāra-Madhyamaka. There are also differences among them in terms of whether or not they assert the subtle selflessness of persons as emptiness.

Yogācāra - Along with Madhyamaka, it was one of the two major philosophical schools of Mahāyāna Buddhism. Founded by Asaṅga and Vasubandhu around the fourth century CE, many of its central tenets have roots in the Saṃdhinirmocanasūtra and the so-called third turning of the dharma wheel (see tridharmacakrapravartana).
