This is because, if it were the case that the experience of subsequent visual cognitions apprehending blue occurred by way of taking the former cognitions that are their primary causes (rang gi nyer len du gyur pa) as their apprehended objects, then it would follow that the subsequent cognitions would not convey any object (like blue) at all. This follows because it is not reasonable to take a distant external object like blue as an object, having relinquished taking the proximate cognition as an object.
