English

What “appears as itself ” (rang snang) is the representation of a subject (’dzin rnam) and what “appears as an object” is the representation of an object (bzung rnam). The representation of the object, which is the objective form, is explained to be the object for the representation of the subject. The experience of the objective representation by the subjective representation is said to be the meaning of self-awareness. Therefore, self-awareness is the subjective representation alone. It itself is the mere clarity and mere awareness within all object-cognitions (gzhan rig). Without depending on any external object, it is oriented only within; all dualistic appearances of subjects and objects are excluded from it.
