| English | The essential point of whether or not the basic consciousness is accepted is, once again, whether or not there is anything accepted that exists on its own. Those who accept the basic consciousness posit it upon seeking out its designated object with reason. Without being satisfied by the person that is merely designated upon the aggregates, they posit the basic consciousness while maintaining that it is necessary for there to be a basis for the signified (mtshan gzhi) person that objectively exists. Due to accepting it to exist on its own, they assert the basic consciousness as the basis for the infusion of the predispositions of karma, and maintain that appearances of external objects arise due to the force of the basic consciousness’s predispositions [709] whereby they are not able to posit external objects merely conventionally. |
