English

There are several arguments refuting external objects in texts such as the Compendium of Mahāyāna (Mahāyānasaṃgraha), the Twenty Verses(Viṃśatikā), the Compendium of Epistemology (Pramāṇasamuccaya), and the Commentary on Epistemology. Here, the claim that there are no external objects is an assertion that there are no external objects like material forms that are established as substantially different from cognition. It is not an assertion that there are no perceived material forms. This is like the Mādhyamika’s claim that there are no truly existent material forms, yet there are material forms that are not truly existent.
