| English | The aspect of continuously taking birth, or being born due to the force of karma and afflictions, is the actual cyclic existence. Nāgārjuna said: “The suffering in this life is called ‘existence.’ ”128Nāgārjuna, Letter to a Friend (Suhṛllekha, D. 4182), 46a. Also, the Succession of Lives says: “Liberation, with little difficulty, from the fortress of birth . . .” Further, to put forth separately the agent, action, and object in relation to cyclic existence: the ones that cycle are the sentient beings who take birth powerlessly; the place of cycling is in the appropriating aggregates; the way of cycling is to cycle without the slightest interruption—from the summit of existence to the hell of utter torment. The conditions for cycling are the forces of karma and the afflictions. |
