| English | Here is a brief exposition of the three wheels, and ways of classifying the provisional and definitive. Among the four philosophical systems, the Vaibhāṣikas do not accept the wheel of dharma of scripture; they claim that a wheel of dharma is necessarily the wheel of dharma of realization, and for that to be exclusively the path of seeing. The Sautrāntikas accept both wheels of dharma of scripture and realization. Within the wheel of dharma of scripture, they assert nothing more than simply the words of sūtras that express the four truths. For the most part, both Vaibhāṣikas and Sautrāntikas claim that the Buddha’s Word is necessarily definitive in meaning. There are also those who accept it to include both meanings that are provisional and definitive, as is said in the Blaze of Reason (Tarkajvāla). |
