There is a division within Madhyamaka into Prāsaṅgika and Svātantrika, which are respectively identified as follows: A Svātantrika is a Mādhyamika who accepts that things exist on their own (rang gi mtshan nyid kyis grub pa)conventionally. Due to negating truly existent entities by relying upon correct reasons with the three modes existing objectively (rang ngos nas grub pa), they are called “Svātantrikas.” “Autonomous” (rang rgyud), “independent” (rang dbang), and “objective” (rang ngos nas grub pa) are said to have the same meaning. A Mādhyamika who does not accept anything to exist on its own,[p.62]The Profound Reality of Interdependence

even conventionally, is a Prāsaṅgika; one who accepts that the inferential understanding to be established in the continuum of an opponent arises by means of only a reductio is called a “Prāsaṅgika.”
