| English | Just cognizing something like a pillar or pot that is unreal or a conventional truth is not sufficient for having arrived at the view of Madhyamaka, because the minds of unreflective (rang dga’ ba) people also see and cognize them. That is, while unreal things like pillars and pots are seen by unreflective people, they are not necessarily established to be unreal because it is like when the illusion of a horse or bull is seen in a magic show, the audience has not necessarily established that those appearances are unreal while seeing them. This is stated in Tsongkhapa’s explanation of the Introduction to the Middle Way. It is said as follows in the Fundamental Verses of the Middle Way: |
