English

In general, a negation—whether or not the expressed words explicitly eliminate an object of negation—is what occurs in the form of a negation when it appears to a cognition that accords with fact (blo don mthun). There are two types of negations: non-implicative and implicative. A non-implicative negation is a negation that does not imply another phenomenon upon negating its object of negation. For example, when asked whether or not brahmins are permitted to drink alcohol, it is like the response: “They are not permitted to drink.”
