| English | This scripture shows that the essential point of the sevenfold reasoning comes down to the reasoning of interdependence. This is because certainty is induced in a person being merely designated in dependence upon its basis of designation by not being found in these seven ways. Also, by understanding it to be a mere designation, confidence arises that the designated object is not findable through analysis, that it is dependently arisen without intrinsic nature, a mere illusion. In short, the basis for the thought “I” is conventional usage based on its basis of designation, the aggregates; that is the “person.” Names like “person” (gang zag), “self ” (bdag), and “being” (skyes bu) have the same meaning. I have just written briefly here in this context of the aforementioned example and the meaning it exemplifies [776] from the passages in the Fundamental Verses of the Middle Way and the Introduction to the Middle Way. |
