English

This is how bodhisattvas give themselves to all sentient beings: By benefiting them through all roots of virtue, they attend to all sentient beings through roots of virtue. Like a lamp, they are placed close to sentient beings. Like happiness, they bless all sentient beings. Like the womb of things, they completely uphold all sentient beings. Like light, they follow after all sentient beings. 343Śāntideva, Anthology of Training, 16b; English trans. in Goodman, The Training Anthology of Śāntideva, 25.
