| English | Some editions of the Way of the Bodhisattva read: “I may be killed by being burnt . . .” Some commentaries follow this by saying that it means to be killed by fire; the meaning is certainly the same as above. Yet all of the older editions of the Way of the Bodhisattva, the root text and the commentaries, have “disembowelment” (bsrogs), and that is the reading when the verse is cited elsewhere, too. Thus it seems that “burnt” (bsregs) was a later alteration. |
