When the Anthology of Training cites the defeats from the Bodhisattva Grounds, it says, “With attachment to acquisitions and esteem” and does not reference the first defeat because the defeat described in the Ākāśagarbha Sūtra has the same meaning. Therefore it is said that it seems to be necessary, according to the intent of Śāntideva, to regard this also as an element of the root downfall from the Bodhisattva Grounds. |
